Biblioblog Top 50 – August 2009

Posted by The Biblioblog Top 50 on August 31, 2009

It’s the Biblioblog Top 50 - for the month of August 2009!

The Biblioblog Top 50 ranks each biblical studies blog, or “biblioblog,” by the total traffic or “hits” it receives each month.

The Number 1 Biblioblogger this month is the indefatigable… the irrepressible…

Jim West, who has owned the Number 1 slot for six straight months!

So who are the shakers and movers in biblical studies blogging for the month of August 2009? In a burst of zealotry, Jeff Oien (Scripture Zealot) leaped 36 places to third place this month, while Daniel and Tonya (Hebrew and Greek Reader) rose 8 places to fourth. Josh Mann (For the Sake of Truth) rose 41 places to No. 17, and Douglas Mangum (Biblia Hebraica), who has being trying to stay away from the biblioblogosphere but just couldn’t do it, rose 56 places to No. 30. The highest new entry was Ferrell Jenkins, who was reclassified from Related Blogs to a biblioblog, listing at No. 5. The Dunedin School‘s new group blog was at No. 31, while Daniel O. McClellan (previously of Maklelan) registered his first Top 50 place, at No. 36.

And without further ado, here are the Top 50 Biblioblogs, complete with runners-up, for August 2009:

[Update: We have been advised of two blogs which should be included amongst the biblioblogs based on their current content, rather than amongst the related blogs: Ferrell Jenkins' Ferrell’s Travel Blog and Robert Cargill's The Official Blog of Robert R. Cargill. We agree. So these two blogs have been included in the Top 50 listings.]

  1. Thanks for your hard work on this, Anti. I am disappointed to see the Biblioblog Top 50 drop out of the chart, though. I thought it was delightful that the chart was higher up than many in the chart and was looking forward to seeing it overtake Jim one day :)

    hey now, that’s insurrectionistic!

    Mark,

We were meaning to say that we had dropped the ‘meta-biblioblogs’ (us, and biblioblogs.com) from the listing. It was all getting a bit incestuous.

And you confuse us with some other person(s).

  4. Thanks, Biblioblogtop50, for the clarification.

Oh, and I had forgotten that NT Wrong was not a member of the the Biblical Floccinaucinihilipilification Society.

Hey, that’s pretty cool! I hope it’s not too big an imposition, but I’m just using my name now for my blog title (Daniel O. McClellan) rather than “Maklelan.” Thanks for what y’all do!

    Almost…almost…there…

    Congrats everyone, especially Jeff!

Thanks for all of this hard work.

Daniel – We’ve fixed that up, thanks for letting us know.

  8. HI, thanks for this hard work. I am just curious, what happened to http://benwitherington.blogspot.com/?

The most interesting story here is my own meteoric rise.

  10. Oh my goodness. I think that August Experiment thing caused something to break. That can’t be right.

    isn’t vlad a vampire?

  12. I am disappointed at my ranking on the Biblioblog list. I guess I got distracted landing that new one hour television documentary on a major US and International cable channel I just got:

    http://stephanhuller.blogspot.com/2009/09/my-cable-documentary-is-go.html

The show will be based on that ‘nonsensical’ book Jim West trashed on his blog a few months back saying it would end up forgotten and abandoned:

    http://jwest.wordpress.com/2009/05/11/more-historical-jesus-nonsense/

That same book is now ranked 24,863 on Amazon and God only knows where it will be when the show airs.

Anyway, stupid is stupid is does. I may never beat Jim West in the Biblioblog rankings. I will be too busy promoting – stupid ‘nonsense.’

Actually I love Jim’s site. I go to it everyday. He is the best resource on the web for the latest on what is going on in the world of Biblical studies. He even managed to report on my lowly book back when it was only 700,000 on the Amazon charts …

    Hi Tommy,

Ben moved to http://blog.beliefnet.com/bibleandculture/ in May 2009. No statistics are available for any blogs on a non-public blog provider such as beliefnet or a university’s website.

    Stephan,

There is no simple correlation between a biblioblog’s popularity and the quality of its posts. There is, however, a fairly regular inverse correlation between the quality of biblical studies and its appearance on cable.

Those who can’t, teach. Those who can’t teach, blog …

  16. Thanks for always keeping us up on the latest [and greatest?]. Anyway, entry # 217 should read “Mike”, not “Mark”. Thanks.

  17. biblioblogtop50 said

Sorry Mike, we’ve fixed that up.

  18. Thanks!

  19. Jim said

stephen your book is still nonsense and your idiotic remark about teaching demonstrates you to be both small and silly. your only redeeming quality is that you have the good sense to visit my blog. other than that, i think it fair to say that you and your book will both end badly.

    ;-P

    Jim,

That’s a common misconception. It’s actually umpire, not vampire.

  21. Halfway into his current reign as the Biblioblog monarch, King Jim West asked:

“why does gender matter?” because to him it seemed, or seems, not to.

Today, from the margins, April DeConick asks:

“What are we going to do about the blogger gender gap?” because she has a proposal for doing something about it.

What do you think? and what might you do?

  22. bobcargill said

    hey, thanx for the add.

    I have disappeared into oblivion.

Oh . . . and I’m not on this list. Perhaps 262nd place?

    Phil

Phil – you’re #140. I suspect your ranking will bounce back next month.
