Steve Caruso – The Biblioblog Reference Library

Posted by The Biblioblog Top 50 on April 18, 2011

Steve Caruso

Steve Caruso

As announced recently, Steve Caruso is currently developing The Biblioblog Reference Library – which is now up and running, and looks like a fantastic hub for all blogging on biblical studies. The Biblioblog Reference Library contains a feed to all biblical studies blogs, based on The Complete List of Biblioblogs, as well as feature articles, posts by topic, and much more to come.

The Biblioblog Top 50 is also pleased to announce that Steve Caruso will be maintaining The Complete List of Biblioblogs, taking over from N.T. Wrong, who we understand has retired to a gated community somewhere in California.

So, if you want to be added to The Complete List of Biblioblogs, send an email to Steve, letting him know your name or screen-name, the blog name, its URL, and the category into which you think it should be listed on The Complete List of Biblioblogs:

BibBlogRefLib [at] gmail.com

Welcome to the team, Steve! And thank you for all your work in the past, N.T. Wrong, and happy retirement!

Some New Biblioblogs

Posted by NT Wrong on April 10, 2011

Here are a few biblioblogs we’ve added to the Complete List of Biblioblogs, over the last couple of weeks, which you simply must read:

Ian Paul Psephizo…It all adds up
Mrs. Rey Reys, The
 Kay Bonikowsky  Happy Surprise
Steve Caruso The Aramaic Blog
Rebekah Devine Primary Word, The
Gustavo Karakey PhD & Dissertation Advice

Ian Paul at Psephizo is an Anglican minister with an interest in Revelation, metaphor, Ricoeur, John, James, and the letters of Paul. Mrs. Rey is a graduate student in Old Testament/Hebrew Bible at Gordon Conwell. Kay Bonikowsky of Happy Surprise has been blogging recently about women in biblical texts. Steve Caruso of The Aramaic Blog has long entertained us with his exposure of contemporary misuse of Aramaic, but now expands his blog to look more generally at biblical studies, with some recent examinations of the infamous lead codices. Rebekah Devine of The Primary Word is doing Masters work at the interface of biblical studies and the arts at the University of St. Andrews, and has an interest in critical biblical scholarship, philosophies of education, Great Books programs, ancient Near Eastern religion, and the poetry of T.S. Eliot and Wendell Berry. Gustavo Karakey offers PhD & Dissertation Advice as he completes his own linguistic/literary study of the Miletus Speech (Acts 20:17-38) and 1 Peter 5:1-9.

The Biblioblog Top 50: Now accepting women!

Posted by The Biblioblog Top 50 on April 5, 2011

Rod of Alexandria sends out an impassioned plea:

AN OPEN LETTER TO WOMEN WHO BLOG, WHO ARE IN SEMINARY/GRAD SCHOOL OR WHO JUST CARE ABOUT RELIGION,

To whom it may concern,

If you are a woman and are interested in theology, the Bible, religious studies, or anything related, no matter what the religious background, I invite you to consider joining the Biblioblogger community. It is quite easy to join us; all you have to do is:

“If you have a biblical studies or related blog which you wish to be added to the list, please email the URL, blog name, and blogger’s name to ntwrong[at]gmail.com.”

The Biblioblog rankings are just for fun, and there is no monetary prize, only bragging rights and noteriety…

(Rod of Alexandria, A CALL FOR WOMEN BLOGGERS: The Bibliobloggersand here, too)

The Biblioblog Top 50 not only backs Rod of Alexandria in this endeavor, but will provide a personal reply – woman to woman – from legendary blogger of old, N.T. Wrong, to any woman who signs up in the current month. Not only that, but we dedicate this month to one of the great woman bloggers, April DeConick, and decree that this month will be hereafter known as “April” in biblioblogging circles. And yet, the Biblioblog Top 50 will go even further. We will also oppose those forces of systemic gender inequality that exist to marginalize (but not in a victimy way, ok, April) women in academia and in academic biblical studies. In solidarity with all those who are othered by the hegemonic centre, we call on all bibliobloggers to discontinue blogging about those institutions which defend the status quo, such as the Bible, the political system, the churches, biblical studies, and the Biblical Archaeology Review - until such time as the system crumbles and falls! Ok?
