Biblioblog Top 50 – July 2009

It’s the Biblioblog Top 50 – for the month of July 2009!

The Biblioblog Top 50 ranks each biblical studies blog, or “biblioblog,” by the total traffic or “hits” it receives each month.

The Number 1 Biblioblogger this month is… Jim West, whose popularity soared after the announcement that an upcoming British Sitcom would be featuring him as the central character.

We have even managed to obtain exclusive footage of the pilot episode from the BBC:

“Aren’t you all entitled to your half-arsed musings on the Divine? You’ve thought about eternity for 25 minutes, and think you’ve come to some interesting conclusions? Well let me tell you. I stand with 2000 years of darkness and bafflement and hunger behind me. My kind have harvested the souls of a million peasants. And I couldn’t give a ha’penny jizz for your internet-assembled philosophy. ”
– Jim West (the Britcom character, not the eminent blogger himself)

So who are the shakers and movers in biblical studies blogging for the month of July 2009? V. Henry T. Nguyen (Punctuated Life) enters the elite top 3, with Peter M. Lopez (Beauty of the Bible) one place behind at No. 4. Dave Black (Dave Black Online) is up 30 places to No. 8, Mike Whitenton (Ecce Homo) is up 35 places to No. 11, and ElShaddai Edwards (He Is Sufficient) is up 36 places to No. 14. Brandon Wason (Sitz im Leben) soared 112 places to No. 20,  Robert C. Kashow (Tolle Lege!) rose 86 places to No. 25, Matthew Burgess (Confessions of a Bible Junkie) charged up 110 places to No. 32, and Greek biblioblogger Ekaterini G. Tsalampouni (Ιστολόγιο βιβλικών σπουδών / Biblical Studies Blog) rose 125 places to No. 34. In addition, debutants CD-Host (Church Discipline, No. 19) and Stephen Smuts (Biblical Paths, No. 29) made strong entries into the Top 50.

For the first time this month, we have published the available rankings (across all blogs and sites on the internet) for all of the blogs on the Complete List of Biblioblogs.  So here’s the Top 50 Biblioblogs, and runners-up, for July 2009:

  1. Thanks for including more blogs. Seeing your inclusion of my blog, I checked it out against Alexa and it appears severely out of place (if I understand your method correctly). My guess is you desire these sorts of things to be pointed out. No worries.

  2. Sorry Josh, and thank you for pointing it out. We’re not quite sure what happened there, but we’ve corrected your ranking.

  3. Matt, Yeah, we’ve got you pegged as mainly a homiletic/practice blog, rather than one that’s primarily addressing biblical studies.

    Thank you for your thanks.

  4. I guess its a sign of the lack of motivation that has dogged me most of my life that I am utterly overjoyed at my ranking 124th in this list. The whole process began when I was utterly shocked when – after stumbling upon a widget on another site – I found out I had any readership at all.

My blog actually only became functional a little over a month ago when AOL wouldn’t allow me to continue using my account until I deleted some of the 14,000 messages I had never erased in my inbox. I only saved the one’s which represented correspondences between myself and same notable professors I know.

That’s how the blog got started. I was too lazy and too stupid to figure out how to save these messages on CD or one of those little sticks you plug into your computer to save things so I just started using a Blogger account. The next thing you know I found our I have 4,000 page views to that account in a month.

Anyway, here’s to the virtues of being lazy and stupid ..
