Biblioblog Top 50 – September 2009

It’s the Biblioblog Top 50 – for the month of September 2009!

The Biblioblog Top 50 ranks each biblical studies blog, or “biblioblog,” by the total traffic or “hits” it receives each month.

Although the battle for Number 1 Biblioblogger was very close this month,
Jim West overcame an impressive challenge from Joel L. Watts, and even foiled our attempt to usurp him by reclassifying Matt Dabbs’s Kingdom Living as a biblioblog!

We have made over 50 additions during the month, by scouring the world of biblical studies blogging, seeking out women biblical studies bloggers (with plenty of help from other bloggers), and reclassifying about 20 blogs on the related blogs list as biblioblogs with a little more flexibility in the criteria. So do have a check through the updated Complete List of Biblioblogs, if you get the chance. Who are the shakers and movers in biblical studies blogging for the month of September 2009? Daniel O. McClellan (Maklelan) leaped into sixth place this month, up 30 places. The mischievious Jim Linville (Dr Jim’s Thinking Shop and Tea Room) rose 53 places to No. 16, in the initial stages of his plan for world biblioblogging domination. And among the new entrants, in addition to Matt Dabbs (at No. 3), we have Henry Neufeld (Participatory Bible Study Blog) at No. 11, and Rachel Marszalek (Re-vis.e Re-form) at No. 23.

So here are the Top 50 Biblioblogs, complete with runners-up, for September 2009:

There is some technical information about how the stats are calculated on the Technical Bits page.

  1. i’m really almost beginning to feel sorry for the poor Cretans living with rankings in the hundreds and hundreds of thousands and worse…

    ;-)

  2. This may be the first month I seriously call the Alexa ranking system into question. The last few days have been big for me (by no means JW big, but big), yet my ranking dropped from being in the 700,000’s to 900,000’s. I personally am not buying it at all. I am also, though–rest assured–not going to get bent out of shape or go on a posting rampage about it. I’m simply registering my puzzlement.

But, in the end, I realize it is all in fun. Next month, onward and upward!

  3. Alexa has been odd the last few days, John. It’ll work itself out. Besides, if you notice the date on the current Alexa rankings, you will see it as either the 26th or the 27th.

I will fly past Jim sometime early next week.

  4. Thanks for the fun news! I understand this is a lot of work and I appreciate that someone is willing to do it all for the sake of our brief amusement.

  5. No one wants to draw attention to ending up in the donkey class but my Alexa ranking is actually 6,232,470 not the 7 million plus that you have me listed at. If there are extra points for having a stupid blog I fully understand …

  6. lol@stephan.

you’re funny- and you’ve got a good sense of humor. so i’m sure you’ll get all the way into the single millions soon!
    ;-)

  7. Stephan, we use the monthly stats. You’re probably looking at the 3-monthly stats, which are lower.

  8. Just checked Alexa, it seems that something might be up in that it does not list a monthly average, only a three month average. Coulf that be the reason for the seemingly “off” results?

  9. Mike – Alexa does list monthly stats, and did have a monthly statistic for Stephan’s blog.

Stephen – We messed up. Sorry. Some inept minion accidentally typed in Ekatarina’s ranking. They have been put in chains in the lower dungeons. Meanwhile, another minion is updating the list.

JK – Like, OMG, we can’t keep up with your on-again, off-again blogging. If you promise not to stop blogging again during October, we’ll put you back on the list. ;-)

John – There is nothing more serious than the top 50.

  10. (Do I have to put my hand on the Bible? 30 days to go? OK, I promise even if you’re making me blush for having been so blogfickle.)

Thank you again for being so responsive to the requests for inclusiveness here. Wow, seems somebody’s reading not only lots of men but also women.

  11. but we require two or three witnesses (just like in the OT) before we can believe you’re as significant as you tell us you are…

    ;-)

  12. well i might be persuaded were the ip addresses for you and the previous comment and the one before that by ould not all exactly the same!

  13. Does a biblioblog for children count? I have kept my St Barnabas Sunday School blog focused on teaching children Hebrew 5 minutes a week. I have one 13 year old after 1 year and a few special 1 hour sessions who can sight read the Hebrew letters now. Last year we concentrated on letters and produced letter blocks and an alef-bet book. This year on numbers – teacher learning one inch ahead of students. These are the Bibliobloggers of the future in as yet undreamed of technology. These are the children that will begin their learning with something other than flannel boards and reductionism. Please consider including http://stbarnabasvictoria.blogspot.com/ last seen on Alexa at about 22,900,000

    thanks
